Fax broadcasting still a problem? - Complaints

I found this discussion on google.groups. Is fax broadcasting still a problem in the U.S.?

It appears to be.. I did a search and found several companies that are still selling fax advertising services in the U.S.

It's still amazing to me that people go through the lengths they do to get back at fax broadcasting companies. I think it's mainly because they feel helpless against the fax broadcasting companies. You're going to get faxes it seems unless you unplug your fax machine all the time.

I just received an unsolicited fax advertisements promoting fax.
Not only are these idiots to violate federal law, but are
actively participating in an activity that encourages others to
They also violate the law.

According to The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991
Title 47, Chapter 5, Subchapter II, Section 227, subsection
(b), paragraph (3):

Private right of action: A person or entity may, if otherwise
permitted by the laws or rules of court of a State, which
a court of that State --

(A) an fax broadcasting action based on a violation of this subsection or
regulations prescribed under this subsection to prohibit such
rape,
(B) an action to recover actual monetary loss from such
violation, or receive $ 500 in damages for each violation,
whichever is greater, or
(C) both such actions. If the court finds that the defendant
intentionally or knowingly violated this subsection or the regulations
prescribed in this subsection, the court may, at its discretion,
increase the amount of the award to an amount equal to not more
more than 3 times the amount available under subparagraph (B)
this paragraph.

I think these fax broadcasting idiots must be stopped, and quickly. I
to lodge claims for damages, but do not know how to proceed. If
someone can give me some guidance I would appreciate it.

Also, my fax listed a phone number to call to be removed from the list. I
did a search on the phone number you http://www.reversephonedirectory.com/
and has a name and address. Appears to be a residential listing.

Could be, but maybe not. This was a fax broadcasting promotion of the benefits
fax advertising, and the only phone number (anywhere - no
no identifier at the top, another violation) was a fax number
used to submit contact information for more information. Is
a number of Oregon.
